Trump has reinstated the Global Gag Rule, which prohibits organisations worldwide from receiving U.S foreign aid or federal funding if they provide abortions, or even give out information about the procedure.
PAI has called it “the beginning of the Trump-Pence administration’s agenda to punish women everywhere.” Adding “Trump’s global gag rule will obstruct and destroy the work of health care providers who are often women’s main — and sometimes only — source for reproductive health care,and their entry point for receiving a wide range of primary health care services,” said Suzanne Ehlers, president and CEO of PAI, in a statement.
This is Trump taking the US back to 1984, why? As petty pay back. The Women’s March has now gone down as the biggest protest in history, and the fragile ego of Trump can’t handle it. So, what does he do? He tries to control the health of every woman on the planet. He makes abortion unsafe. He reinstates an act that will cost women their lives. Unsafe abortions kill 47,000 women per year and the Global Gag Rule will do nothing but add to this number.
The march gave us all some hope, it made us realise how many people are of the same mindset and are willing to fight for gender equality. Today, the Global Gag rule has reminded us how easily progress is undone. How one man with a grudge and misogynistic tendencies can jeopardise the health of millions of women with the simple swipe of a pen.
Heartbreaking, yes. Silencing? Hell fucking no.
